Harish Ali 28, is a person with Locomotor Disability. At the age of nine he was hit by an Army truck on the Highway in Kopalkata village, Sonapur Gram Panchayat, Dimoria Block, Kamrup District (M), Assam. When Swabalambi identified him in 1997, he had an swollen elephant right leg blue in colour as he was only treated by a village quack for 01 year. When ortho doctors examined him in a Medical Camp at Swabalambi in 1997, they advised immediate surgery and amputation to arrest setting of gangrene of the limb. The boy who was so much in pain surprised the doctors by going to the OT happy smiling, knowing that amputation will make him free of the pain of 01 year. After the amputation he was given Artificial Limb (Jaipur foot) and was enrolled in pre vocational program of Swabalambi in Bamboo, Origami and modeling with Plasticene. In 2003, he won Silver Medal in Origami at the National Abilympics 2003 and a bronze Medal in Modelling with Plasticene the Zonal Abilympics at Kolkata in 2004. When Harish was 18, he was trained in the series of Bamboo Work Training at Swabalambi and in the Advanced Design Workshop by the Ministry of Textiles from 2006. He earns from his small Bamboo enterprise and looks after his parents. He earned a Silver Medal in Swimming at the Special Olympics 2013 at the National Games Stadium in Guwahati. He is also a DPO leader now. He demonstrated his craftsmanship to Madam Sonia Gandhi at the SAMARTH Festival at New Delhiin January 2014.
